Most recording studio today use digital sound, which is of better quality as it is less prone to noise and interference. When a digital sound is recorded the analog signal corresponding to the sound is converted into discrete bytes and stored on the hard disk
The procedure for converting a digital sound into an analog signal is as follows:
1. Sound is converted into an analog electrical signal using a microphone or other transducer.
2. This electrical analog signal is transmitted to an Analog to Digital Converter (ADC)
3. The ADC converts the analog signal into a stream of binary numbers . The numbers produced per second is the sampling frequency. If the sampling frequency is high, the quality of the recorded sound will be high as the original sound can be reproduced more accurately and less data is lost. However, more storage space will be taken up.
4. The digital sound signals are then stored on the hard disk or any other recording media.

A recording studio is a facility usually specially designed by an acoustician to control audio reflections, so that sound of optimal quality is recorded. Commercials, voice overs and music for television shows, movies, cartoons, record bands , artists and orchestras use the facilities provided at recording studios
A recording studio typically consists of 3 sections
1. Studio - where the vocalists and instrumentalists perform. It may also contain a vocal booth, a small room exclusively for recording voices
2. Control room - the sound from the studio is recorded and manipulated using the equipment from the control room. Some of the equipment includes mixing consoles, multi track recorders, microphones, music and audio workstations
3. Isolation booth : Drums , electrical guitars and other loud instruments are kept in these booths, to prevent the sound from being picked up microphones.
